SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) – Many people use apps like Airbnb to book accommodation for their trip.
A unique Airbnb is now open and bookable right here in Siouxland … and it’s like nothing you’ve seen before.
“It’s a good place to just switch off and relax from today’s world,” said Knecht.
While building his Treehouse Airbnb, Darwin Knecht had another idea for a unique place to stay … a hobbit house.
After around 14 months of work, his idea has become a reality … to transform a part of Siouxland into the fantasy world of Middle-earth.
“You will never remember the hotel you were in. Nobody ever does. It’s just another room. But something unique will always stay in your mind.
When you first walk into the hobbit-sized house, you will be greeted with a quote from the book. The house can accommodate up to four people with two beds and a small living area.
Knecht said he hopes guests who come for the Hobbit experience will venture into the community.
“There’s a lot going on here. That’s one of the biggest things they ask us, where are the different sights, where are the places to go? The restaurants, the bars, the parks? And we have a list of them that we give them and that we send around, “said Knecht.
Jacob Metz, Knecht’s son-in-law, said their hard work paid off despite the challenges.
“I am very proud of what we have achieved and what is still to come,” said Jacob Metz.
When you walk in it is like walking into the mythical Shire.
“This is my big thing. I like to pay attention to detail and just make it something you can’t see, ”said Knecht.
While the interior of the Hobbit House is completed, Knecht is still working on a landscaping that will feature a fireplace and a waterfall when completed.
